Skills Required The Coach should be able to:
  • Motivate players and volunteers, and communicate effectively with them.
  • Make things FUN.
  • Use time efficiently and effectively.
  • Provide structured planning and make best use of time available.
  • Show an appropriate level of technical knowledge.
  • Break skills down if appropriate, analyse skills and make improvements.
  • Make use of appropriate equipment and adapt if necessary.

Main Duties:

  1. Plan and deliver coaching sessions appropriate to the ability of participants.
  2. Soccer Sevens: In conjunction with other team coaches, ensure clear guidance and supportive encouragement during matches.
  3. Provide support and advice to the other coaches and helpers within the coaching team.
  4. Be prepared to delegate organisational jobs which do not need coaching skills e.g. keeping the register, equipment and venue hire.
  5. Ensure that you are well briefed about any special needs of the participants involved i.e. levels of fitness, significant medical conditions, physical impairments or disabilities.
  6. Make participants aware of their progress.
  7. Identify and recruit, in line with club procedures, additional volunteers to assist in the running of club activities e.g. parents.
  8. Ensure the Management Committee is aware of all club activities and ensure strong links and communication between each team within team, age group or soccer school section and the wider club.
  9. Utilise the Blackburn United website to improve information flow and accessibility for potential new members.
  10. Abide by and promote sound ethics in line with Club policies.
  11. Ensure that all coaching staff qualifications are kept up to date and recorded centrally by Club Secretary.
  12. Take responsibility for ensuring that the equipment is correct and is kept in good working order.
  13. Be aware of and follow the procedures for recording Child Protection Concerns and Accidents.
  14. The coach should be aware of the clubs Health & Safety policy and Emergency Procedures and take their own responsibility for Health & Safety.
  15. Ensure that there is an accessible, well-stocked first aid kit at all training sessions and fixtures and have access to a telephone or mobile phone.

Time Commitment: Between 2 and 8 hours per week.
